Sorry for the long absence of new posts.

October was a busy, busy month working on ALL of the new installations and exhibitions for the newly renovated SCAD Museum of Art. If you havnt checked it out yet, please do so. You will not regret it.

Here is a short time lapse video the school put together about the construction and development of the SCAD MOA. See if you can spot yours truly working on some of these shows.

Softly turned to winter

Winter seems to have snuck up on us this year. December came around and the temperature plummeted, leaves disappeared and things as a whole slowed down. Luckily with that, came fewer distractions - so when Kay and i aren't hibernating at home watching movies, We're spending more time in the studio.

I currently have a collection of a dozen or so drawings, plus some prints up for the Annual Small Works exhibition at Gutstein Gallery here in Savannah.

I just returned from spending a week in Atlanta, where I had the great pleasure of working with California-based artist, Kendell Carter, on his most recent solo venture, "It Is What It Is, But It Is'nt".

It took the better part of the week to wrap the install, but it couldn't have turned out better. His work is fantastic, and this show is no exception . If you are anywhere near Atlanta in the coming weeks, please visit the Trois Gallery!

Picturing The Beast - Savannah

Back in the Spring of 2009, I finished my "Mobilization" Print for a Trade Portfolio that my dear friends Curtis and Jen put together for SGC 2009 in Chicago.

Now that same portfolio is going to be exhibited here in Savannah. SCAD is currently showing all our prints at their Hall Street gallery. The details are all included below, but if you're here in town, please join us at the reception on Friday, September 17th.

Space Camp 2010

Earlier this month, Kay and I took a long weekend with our friends Jonathan and Whitney. We ventured down to Florida to hang out on the beach and nerd out at the Kennedy Space Center...

I've gotta say, the Russians certainly got a couple things right in their space program. For starters, the term "cosmonaut" is way cooler than "astronaut"

...and they've got a great color scheme going here.

While we were in the park we were lucky enough to watch a test flight of the new Falcon IX rocket.

Being inside the Space center, we were able to get just about as close to the launch as a civilian can get.

On our last day we visited Playlinda beach, which is part of the Nature preserve in the KSC. Miles and miles of beautiful beaches. A great end to a great trip. If you ever get a chance to check out the space center, do it. It's pretty exciting.

There is so much room, great natural light, and a studio cat. We'll be sharing the space with our good friend and creative powerhouse, Jen Jenkins.

This Weekend I shipped some work out to Cincinnati for Manifest Gallery's 6th annual "Magnitude 7" Exhibition.

The Opening reception is Friday May 28th, and the exhibition runs from May 28 - June 25

The Magnitude show coincides with their collage exhibition, "Guidebook" so if you happen to be in Cincinnati, check it out!

The gallery also produces full color catalogs of their exhibitions, and they'll be available on their website.

The last weekend in March, Kay and I took a long weekend in Philadelphia to check out this year's Southern Graphics Council Printmaking Conference and Philagrafika. Philadelphia was fantastic, and here are some photos from the weekend:

Shortly after breakfast Friday we caught up with our Atlanta comrades, Jay & Molly

We visited the Fabric Workshop Museum, where we just missed their exhibition by Chinese artist Cai Guo-Aing. We poked around the museum, but were disappointed to discover that you needed an appointment to see the actual workspace and printing area. Maybe next time...

We ventured down the street to check out the notorious Space 1026. We arrived too late the night before to catch the opening of this show, but we looked around the gallery while they cleaned up (note the keg still out the morning after...)

Not only did I get to examine a piece by one of my favorite Philly-based artists, Alex Lukas, but he was also exhibiting his fantastic and meticulous process work:

We explored some more and made our way to Art in the Age (sorry no picture), and had lunch at a great hole-in-the-wall restaurant called Honey's, recommended to us by the kind folks at ArtStar

...complete with delicious milkshakes!

We walked around some more, visited the Fabric Horse storefront, Letter press shop pre55ed, and caught a great exhibition by fellow SCAD alum, Hilary White at the Toothless Cat gallery. From there we saw a panel discussion and some more printwork at Tyler School of Art, and snooped around their Printmaking studios. From there we caught a shuttle back and headed to Moore College of Art and Design...

They had a wonderful installation by Regina Silviera, but before we entered we had to put these little shoe covers on...

Another great installation, this one with mirrored walls and skull motifs by Virgil Marti

Out side of Moore was this awesome raptor sculpture (dad, this ones for you) - I'll always be a sucker for dinosaurs.

Caught another shuttle out to the Crane Arts building, which was just overflowing with incredible work. Far too much for me to photograph, but here are a few, starting with this mind-melding cut paper piece. Wish I had caught the name of the artist.

Outside the Crane Arts Building was the oh-so-epic Printmaking Viking ship. Quite a site to see, and put together by several great Printmakers, including the always impressive Sean Starwars.

From there we caught up with Shawn of Masthead Print Studios, and had a great Friday night out in Philly (complete with cheese steak and local brews - not pictured)...

Started the next morning with an incredible breakfast at the retro-styled Continental restaurant before heading to the SGC open portfolio session.

Took a break from the hustle and bustle of the portfolio review to grab lunch and a mid-day dessert. Who can resist a plaid, peanut butter cupcake? ...not us.

Time to really get down to business. I've got a long weekend of drawing, painting and printing ahead of me. Working 40+ hours a week means I really have to maximize nights and weekends for productivity.

6x6 Gallery

Kay and I are both participating in the first exhibition to be held at 6x6 Gallery NY. A sister gallery of Charming Wall Inc , 6x6 will host a group show with hundreds of artists, all doing work on a 6" square canvas.
I have to give them props for being incredibly well organized... above is the submission packaging and materials they sent in one neat little box. I have yet to work with a gallery as streamlined as these folks.

The show opens this fall, and I've got about a month to turn the canvas around and ship it back to NY. I'll keep posting as i make progress and the show draws near... as of this moment the canvas is blank.

Should be exciting!

Yvon Le Caer

This guy bicycled across the Strait of Florida & English Channel in the eighties. He also trained off Key Biscayne, FL - about 2 hours from where i grew up.

Yesterday I found out that i was accepted into a show entitled "Twisted Spurs" at the K Space Contemporary in Corpus Christi, TX.

It is a themed group show that deals with "themes, ideas, methods and/or materials associated with the American West and cowboy art ... a fresh 21st century approach to traditional Western imagery and present clever, humorous, or innovative ideas."

In other words, it should be an awesome show. color me stoked.
